About
Queen Ethelburga’s is spread across 220 acres of beautiful North Yorkshire countryside. Every boarding house is on-site and only a few feet from the school, allowing students to roam the site and access all facilities safely. The campus is secluded and has 24/7 security so parents can be confident that their children are safely looked after. Our rural location makes us much safer than boarding schools located in cities.
The hustle and bustle around campus makes the school feel like a town in itself. You will have access to an on-site Medical Centre, gym, swimming pool, uniform and essentials shop, tuck shop, coffee shop and a weekend fast-food café.
At weekends there are plenty of organised activities to keep you entertained, including a Welcome Weekend party at the beginning of term with inflatables and food vans. You can also go on trips offsite to local cities/towns like York, Harrogate, and Leeds.
Their House Parents promote independence and take the time to teach the students the essential skills for life.
Younger students are taught how to tie shoelaces and ties, fasten top buttons, make beds and brush/style hair. Further up the school students are taught how to wash clothes, cook healthy meals, and polish shoes.
Staff across boarding, pastoral, teaching and careers help to prepare you for the independence of life beyond school. The Careers team begin working with students from Key Stage Two and Sixth Formers have ‘Learn For Life’ sessions in their form time to teach them key skills for working life and living at university.
Wrap-Around Care Throughout The Holidays
Through the half-term and Easter holidays, you can attend Holiday At QE, a residential holiday camp offering an alternative British homestay experience.
Holiday at QE is run by the boarding team who organise a bespoke package of organised activities and offsite trips.
You can also access all the campus facilities – which is a real advantage if you need access to the Creative Arts, Music, Sports, or Performing Arts departments during exam season.
Boarding
Choose to board at Queen Ethelburga’s to take full advantage of the amazing school facilities (like the Sports Village and Creative Arts classrooms) outside the school day.
Their boarding houses cater for all ages. Younger students stay in award-winning dormitories, with cupboards placed lower down, smaller chairs, and beds. Their littlest boarders can also ask for a House Parent to read a bedtime story and tuck them in at night.
For Sixth Form students there is exclusive access to the Atrium; a modern dining room with common rooms and bedrooms surrounding the hall. Here, students have more independence and freedom - along with all the kit, like TVs, game consoles, coffee machines, ovens, kettles and washing machines.
